Last June I went inside a prefab home on the grounds of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.
Today, I bring the the outside of that home.
Back in 2005 modular homes were all the rage.
Since the housing bust, you haven't heard much about them.
In order to build a modular home, you need to buy a vacant lot. They're cheap now, so it's something to consider.
Next, you get a construction loan so that if the general contractor runs off you won't have paid the entire cost.
Modular home prices average about $80 a square foot.
So, you might think a modular home is nothing more than a double-wide. That's not the case as they are built to real-home specs.
That's the skinny on the homes.
If you're photographing one, get a close-up shot. This shot was cropped from a long shot. In the original shot the home looked no better than a shoe box.
